Petitpas Taylor to unveil new food warning labels

Health Minister Ginette Petitpas Taylor is expected to announce proposed new warning labels for foods high in salt, sugar or saturated fats Friday afternoon.

Health Canada has been conducting public consultations to come up with the new labels.The announcement is expected to begin at 1:30 p.m. You can watch it live here.

A document obtained by CBC News shows the new warning symbols being proposed include stop signs and exclamation points.

“Our goal would be to have something that people are going to look at that would be as simple as possible and as easy to identify as possible,” former health minister Jane Philpott told CBC News in June.
